SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Some of the most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, and Bing. When you make a website you have to consider several elements of the design to ensure search engines will come to your website and be able to crawl your content. This is how your pages and content end up in the search engines when someone searches for it. For instance if your website is about Caring for Cats then you would want it to be shown in the results when someone searches for "how to care for cats". Therefore SEO is a really important part of the design process. Things like page titles, metatags, image alt tags, search engine friendly urls, etc, all need to be considered.
